How do I use HTML in my descriptions?
On penbid you can use HTML in your auction descriptions to give a more personal look
to your auctions. However, there are some issues you should be aware of:
-
penbid uses an HTML filter on all listings pages, such as
"New Items", Featured Items listing on front page,
all category listings, etc. This means that if you are not
careful when writing your HTML, your description will not be
shown in those listings and will actually decrease your chance
of a succesful auction.
-
If you write your HTML incorrectly, your description will look
strange and might actually make the auction appear to not show
at all.
-
As a rule of thumb, always set the start date for your auction
at least a couple of hours into the future, so you will have time to
fix any issues with your html.
-
All HTML descriptions are your own responsibility, penbid will
not answer support questions regarding errors in HTML
descriptions, so be careful and make sure that your HTML code
is correct before submitting the item.
To get you started, here is an abbreviated list of tags to use:
- <center> - This will center your text across the available space. This tag must be closed by </center>
- <b> - This will make your text bold. This tag must be closed by </b>
- <i> - This will show your text as italics. This tag must be closed by </i>
- <br> - This will add a linebreak to your description, if you want to have more space in your text, just add another <br>
- <font color="blue"> - This will change the color of the text. This tag must be closed by </font>. Available colors are: aqua, black, blue, fuchsia, gray, green, lime, maroon, navy, olive, purple, red, silver, teal, white, yellow.
Make sure that you close all tags that needs to be closed, as shown in the list of tags above.
Also, make sure there are no nesting errors in your code, as shown in the two examples below.
Incorrectly nested tags:
<b><i>Text</b></i>
Correctly nested tags:
<b><i>Text</i></b>
Your HTML must not contain any of the following tags, these tags are on the page already and using them will in many cases make the page fail to load. This will mean that the bidding box at the bottom of the page will not show up which makes it impossible to bid on your auction.
- <html>, </html>
- <body>, </body>
- <script>, </script>
Example Code
<b><font color="blue">History of Item</font></b><br>
This pen has been in the private collection of Charles Dickens and is ...<br>
<br>
<b><font color="blue">Condition of Item</font></b><br>
The pen has minor scratches and appears to have been used frequently ...<br>
<br>
<b><font color="blue">Other Information</font></b><br>
The pen comes with an unused nib, box and a certificate from the
manufacturer stating that this pen is no. 123 out of a limited
production run of 456 pens.
This will produce the following result

How to read or write feedback on a user.
After completing a transaction both buyer and seller should return to the auction
to enter feedback relating to the transaction.
This builds a profile of feedback and allows future users to read information for both parties.
There are two methods for reading or entering feedback for a buyer or seller.
Method One
-
Go directly to the buyers area, (click on the buyers sign on the top of the penbid page)
or use this link http://www.penbid.com/Auction/XcAPViewRatings.asp.
-
Scroll down to where it say enter a users ID to see the feedback rating.
Here you should enter the user id you want to leave feedback on.
-
A rating can be positive, negative or neutral, and always have to have a short comment.
-
The more positive feedback generated for you the more penbid medals you get beside your user id.
Method Two
-
When viewing an item both seller and bidders are shown by their user name
followed by a rating number in parenthesis. Click on the rating number to
view or enter feedback on this user.
-
You may only leave feedback if you are the seller or the winning bidder in the auction.
Based on the ratings received, sellers will receive the symbols in the form of penbid medals,
placed on the item page next to the user ID and the rating number in parenthesis.
This rating number is calculated by subtracting the negative feedback from positive feedback received.
Postive feedback of 5-20 = |
 |
Positive feedback of 21-50 = |
 |
Positive feedback of 51-100 = |

Positive feedback of 101-250 = |

You do however have several methods available to you for viewing the closed auction.
-
If you know the lot number, enter this in the field to search on lot number on the front page.

If you do not know the lot number, you can search for title or description, and choose to include

This is also a great way to see what was sold, and at what prices.
For example try to search for "Montblanc" and include closed auctions.
To see all the item you currently bidding on or have bid on click on the buyers
